Hope for the Community was founded in 2010 in response to “The Great Recession.” The first week of operation, HFTC served 27 families a variety of surplus food. Initially, the food shelf utilized snow and snowbanks to keep the food cold. After receiving numerous donations and grants, Hope For The Community purchased state-of-the-art freezers and refrigerators. Hope For The Community became agency partners with 2 local food banks in the Twin Cities- Second Harvest Heartland and The Food Group. In 2014, HFTC became a 501c3 humanitarian organization with the trademarked mission of Fighting Hunger, Delivering Hope ®.
In 2024, Hope For The Community served 96,000 families, 2.3 million lbs. of groceries, and became one of the largest food shelves in Minnesota. With 8 locations in the Twin Cities area, Hope for the Community serves approximately 1800 families per week. HFTC operates with the help of 130 volunteers each week.
In 2010, Hope for the Community opened its doors in Blaine to feed those in need in the Twin Cities community. In its first week of operation Hope for the Community fed 27 families.
In 2012, Hope for the Community received TEFAP/USDA Certification. This certification allows Hope For the Community to provide nutritous food to more families.
In 2014, Hope for the Community became an independent 501c3 Non-Profit humanitarian organization.
In 2018, Hope For The Community opened a location in Elko/New Market. This location serves the southern Twin Cities area while Blaine continues to serve the North Metro and surrounding communities.
In 2019, Hope For The Community opened a location at Anoka Technical College in Anoka.
2020 Hope For The Community received trademark status for its mission statement: Fighting Hunger, Delivering Hope ®
In 2021, Hope For The Community opened a location at Normandale Community College in Bloomington.
In 2022, Hope For The Community opened a location at Coon Rapids
Middle School.
In 2023, Hope For The Community opened a location at Anoka Ramsey
Community College.
In 2025, Hope For The Community opened a location at Hope 4 Youth in
Anoka.
Dr. Alan Goracke
President and Founder
Dr. Alan Goracke is the Founder and volunteer CEO of Hope For The Community. Dr. Goracke possesses extensive experience in organizational leadership as a former business owner, a pastor, a district superintendent, a Senior Merchandise Analyst, and a buyer.
Dr. Goracke’s academic background includes a Doctorate from Bethel
University, with a concentration in organizational systems, and a master’s degree in leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University. He has a bachelor’s degree in management from St. Cloud State University. He also possesses two associate's degrees from Normandale Community College. Dr. Alan Goracke also serves as Lead Pastor at Hope Church in Blaine, Minnesota. He resides in the Twin Cities with his wife, Pamela, and they have two grown children and 3 grandchildren.
